Our ballistic laptop briefcase clocks in at 16" x 11.5" x 4", large enough for any professional notebook computer, with plenty of interior room for piles of discs and documents. And, as the astute among you might imagine, it's made of ballistic nylon.
Ballistic nylon is an extremely durable, highly tear-resistant material that gets its name from its original intended purpose as the primary fabric in flak jackets. Although made obsolete by later advances in bullet resistant materials, ballistic nylon still functions incredibly well in civilian applications.
Ballistic nylon is a filamental yarn, meaning it is comprised of individual strands of fabric as opposed to a discontinuous, or "texturized," substance. This means any force applied to the material is absorbed only by the strands directly affected by the stress, rather than distributing that energy across the entire surface of the fabric. Ultimately, this makes ballistic nylon less abrasion-resistant than other high-quality nylons, such as cordura, but it also allows means that when punctured (which requires a tremendous amount of force due to the high tear strength), ballistic nylon is capable of filling in these holes all by itself with pliable, healthy, ready-to-go fibers. It's not a picture-perfect self-repair job, but it is fairly successful in masking these anomalies if they crop up.
Furthermore, ballistic nylon'stwo-ply weave (a fancy way of saying each yarn is actually comprised of two identical interwoven strands) gives this laptop briefcase an impressive, glossy, modernistic aesthetic perfect for the traveling businessman looking for that inspiring "wow" factor. We chose a heavier 1680-Denier material (most ballistic nylon is 1050-Denier) to bring out a more imperious, industrial feel than might be conveyed by a lighter, finer fabric.
As an added bonus, a long-lasting polyurethane coating on the underside of the ballistic nylon itself provides the case with breathable waterproofing. Even in the rain, your papers and all-important notebook computer will remain untouched by the elements!
There aren't a lot of different compartments on this case, but the ones that exist pack a whole lot of punch! The main zippered compartment features a document-specific subspace divided from the padded laptop compartment (which, by the way, boasts velcro straps for keeping your laptop safe and secure during transport). A wide array of internal mesh pouches and assorted pockets render all the space necessary for accessories and computer peripherals (mouse, flash drives, power brick, etc). There's even a built-in organizer for pens, planners, and PDA's! Extra personal effects can be stored in the external front zippered pocket.
