Z-Lock pistol inserts are made from 1000-denier nylon Cordura, a highly abrasion- and tear-resistant nylon variant first put forth many decades ago by the great American chemical company DuPont. Of course, tough material is pretty worthless without tough construction, which is why the whole bag features double-stitched nylon seaming and quadruple-stitched zippers for superior durability. Cordura is also unaffected by heat, cold, water, dirt, and oil, and will never fade or break down due to rot or mildew. Ah, the miracles of synthetic fabric!
The inserts are padded with polyethylene foam to protect against minor shock damage, and can be yours in either a single- or double-zipper configuration. The double-zipper configuration gives you the additional advantage of being able to further secure the bag with a padlock, although the locking zippers alone are enough to remain in compliance with various state laws regarding the vehicular transport of firearms.
The zippers themselves are comprised of YKK number 8 coils with sliders that lock with an included key. The mechanism is designed to prevent the zipper from being opened, but not closed. For instance, if you locked the slider with the bag open (and the firearm thusly accessible), you could then close the zipper at any time. It will freely move in the “close” direction but, as it remains locked, will not move in the “open” direction unless the key is used.
The bag can be enhanced with the addition of an adjustable shoulder strap which can attach and detach to the bag by way of stainless steel clips. The strap can be made out of either polypropylene webbing or an incredibly heavy-duty nylon webbing called Glossflex, which has a 7700-pound rated breaking force (the highest of any nylon webbing in existence). A rubber shoulder pad for extra comfort is an optional upgrade.
